When we moved to our property at Cedar Creek in the Gold Coast hinterland, I hadn’t really thought much beyond wanting to grow my own fruit and vegetables. Although everyone talks about the damaging impact of chemicals on our health and environment, I hadn’t yet decided on how I would approach my garden.
I started reading books, magazines and internet articles to try to develop a perspective on both the negative impacts of chemicals and also how difficult it is to grow crops without their use. It is of course a very political topic and with the myriad of information available, can be very confusing.
After a lot of research I decided that I would go down the path of organic gardening and get the most benefit from our lifestyle change. This was as much to protect and nurture our land as it was for us.
We consider ourselves very lucky to be able to embark on this journey and I hope to share in these pages some of the joys of gardening as well as some of the trials of managing a garden organically.
