After years of living in noisy, polluted inner city and suburban environments, nothing can be more enjoyable and healthy than a move to the countryside!
We love being woken by birds instead of noisy traffic. The air is fresh and the smell of the eucalypts is glorious.
We get the added bonus of observing the wildlife which is fascinating. And the stars in the night sky – a sight to behold and one which is rarely appreciated in the cities with so much reflected light.
A lot of our friends headed to the coastal settlements when they were able to finally get out of city life, but there are many advantages in a move to the countryside.
You get the advantage of being able to plant some fruit trees and develop a vegetable patch. For me this has meant that we have been able to grow a significant amount of our weekly produce, and the reassurance that it has truly been grown organically.
And although we have plenty of space to own our own farm animals we have decided that our two cattle dogs, Lulu and Gemma are more than enough.
However we have been fortunate to have a regular supply of eggs from one neighbour and honey from another. And last Christmas a gift of a plucked goose and the occasional free range chicken from another wonderful neighbour.
The true life enriching aspect of country living comes with the chance to appreciate nature and the simpler things, and invariably develop a stronger sense of environmental awareness and community.
It is extremely rare for those who have experienced rural living to voluntarily return to the city bustle, and if you are considering such a move, you won’t regret it!
